aqualite® protect

EFFECTIVELY PREVENT INFESTATION WITH MICROORGANISMS

Available from 2024

Warm and humid environments, which are typical in wellness areas, showers or saunas, offer optimal growth conditions for a wide variety of microorganisms. Despite regular cleaning, Glass can be a breeding ground for microorganisms too and strongly adhering biofilms can form. For this reason, we have developed a glass with an antibacterial coating that effectively prevents the proliferation of bacteria, thus facilitating cleaning and improving hygiene. At the same time, the glass can hardly be distinguished from a conventional, uncoated glass and is therefore versatile.

Advantages of aqualite® protect

√ Effective inhibition of the multiplication of microorganisms

√ Proof of effectiveness according to ISO 22196 under realistic conditions

√ Can be combined with hydrophobization (lotus effect)

√ Reduction of cleaning agents and time protects nature and safes money

Areas of application

Our antimicrobial glass is particularly suitable for all areas that offer optimal conditions for the growth of microorganisms and where there is a high awareness of hygiene.

EFFECTIVENESS & CLEANING

The effectiveness of our antimicrobial glasses has been proven in numerous laboratory tests according to ISO 22196 at room temperature as well as after various realistic stress tests typical for everyday use. Even after more than 20,000 wiping movements with a rubber lip as well as using common cleaning agents, the effect remains unchanged and therefore provides a lasting and consistent effect. In addition to the antimicrobial effect of the glass, the application brings another advantage: The cleaning effort is reduced enormously due to the reduced tendency to biofilm formation. This not only saves time, but also indirectly benefits the environment by reducing the use of cleaning agents.

Principle

The active principle is known today as oligodynamics. This ensures that microorganisms in direct contact with copper compounds are exposed to various mechanisms of action, which in total deprive them of their basis for survival. These include damage to the cell wall, oxidative stress on the cell and interaction with proteins, without which the cell cannot survive. In a similar way, this effect is used with aqualite® protect to give it antimicrobial properties. In this process, metal ions with antimicrobial activity are firmly embedded in a glass-like coating. These interact with the microorganisms on the surface and effectively prevent them from multiplying.
